About this model

Overview

The Escape 1800 is Drolet's mid-size stove and the most broadly useful of the five here: a 2.4 cu ft firebox, up to 75,000 BTU/hr, and a published range of 500 to 2,100 sq ft from an eight-hour load.

It is EPA 2020 approved and non-catalytic, takes logs up to 20 inches, and comes in three bodies — a pedestal base, a traditional black cabinet, and the same cabinet with a nickel-trimmed door. The choice is appearance and footprint; the firebox and the ratings are the same across all three.

Is this right for your home?

A main living area of roughly 500 to 2,100 sq ft where the stove is expected to carry the heating load through a winter evening and hold a fire overnight.

Check before ordering

  • Which of the three bodies suits the room — the pedestal and the cabinet versions sit differently in a space.
  • Clearances to walls and combustibles from the manual, and the floor protection required.
  • A route and height for the stove's own insulated chimney.
  • Firewood cut to 20 inches or shorter, seasoned to roughly 15-20% moisture.

Worth knowing

  • Headline capacity matches the Heritage in this category. The Heritage adds a cast iron framed door and an included 100 CFM blower; the Escape 1800 gives you the three body styles instead.
  • Style is fixed at the point of ordering, since each body is a separate model number.

Installation

A freestanding stove needs listed floor protection, measured clearances to walls and combustibles, and its own insulated chimney sized and routed for the model. The body style you pick also changes the footprint on the floor.

Brown Chimney can review the room against the manual's clearances, advise which body suits the space, and set out what the chimney route involves.

Service availability depends on your location.

What to check before installation

What an assessment of this model would cover:

  • Floor area and wall distances for the chosen body, against the manual's clearances.
  • The hearth pad or floor protection the model requires.
  • Chimney route, height and resulting draft.
  • Firewood supply and storage for 20-inch logs.

Frequently asked questions

Which of the three styles should I choose?

They burn identically — same firebox, same ratings. The pedestal sits on a central base and reads lighter in a room; the traditional cabinet has a fuller body, with the nickel-trimmed door as the dressier option. Pick on appearance and footprint, and decide before ordering, since each is a separate model number.

Can it hold a fire overnight?

Drolet publishes up to eight hours from a full load of seasoned wood. Whether that carries you through the night depends on the wood, the chimney draft and how low you can run the air without smouldering.

How is it different from the Heritage?

The firebox, output and heating area are the same. The Heritage has a cast iron framed door with refractory brick lining and includes a 100 CFM blower; the Escape 1800 is offered in three body styles instead. Choose on looks and whether you want the blower included.
