Which type suits you?

The same four questions for each fuel. Requirements vary by model, so treat this as a starting point rather than a rule for every appliance.

Electric

Typical use
Flame effect with supplemental heat, in rooms where a flue or gas line is impractical.
Infrastructure to check
A framed opening of the right size and an electrical supply that meets the model's published requirements.
Upkeep
No combustion by-products. Cleaning the glass and occasional servicing of the fan and lighting.
Next step
Measure the wall opening, then compare widths.

Periodic servicing of the burner, ignition and venting, plus glass cleaning.
Next step
Check the supply type and possible vent route.

Wood

Typical use
Substantial heat from an existing masonry fireplace, where firewood is available.
Infrastructure to check
A masonry opening meeting the model's minimum dimensions and a full-height stainless steel liner.

Ash removal, seasoned firewood storage and regular chimney sweeping and inspection.
Next step
Measure the fireplace opening before shortlisting.

Thinking about installation?

Brown Chimney can assess what a fireplace would need in your home — the opening, the chimney or venting route, and what work is involved. Service availability depends on your location.

Frequently asked questions

Do I buy the fireplace from Brown Chimney?

No. Products are sold through Kaminos, the store this catalogue links to. Brown Chimney's role is the chimney and fireplace work around the appliance.

Why are prices not shown here?

Pricing and available options are maintained on Kaminos, so the product pages there are always the current source. Each product page here links straight to the matching Kaminos listing.

Can Brown Chimney tell me whether a model will fit?

We can assess the fireplace opening, chimney and venting route and tell you what a specific model would need. Get in touch and we can talk through the room and the appliance you have in mind.

How do electric, gas and wood compare?

Electric needs no venting and gives modest supplemental heat. Gas gives controllable heat on demand through a sealed vent. Wood gives the highest output but needs a suitable masonry fireplace, a liner and seasoned firewood.
