Here's How We Price Gas Fireplace Repair

Most gas fireplace problems come down to one link in the ignition chain: the switch or remote, the spark ignitor, the pilot, the thermocouple that proves the flame, or the gas valve. We find which one has failed, then price the repair per visit, so the number covers the diagnosis, the replacement and a test run.

Brown Chimney's gas fireplace repair prices, in U.S. dollars:

  • Service and repair visit: $350–$450. Diagnosis and repair of the problem found, with labor and small common parts up to $50 included. The unit is run before and after.
  • Thermocouple replacement: $450. The most common reason a pilot lights and then goes out. The thermocouple is replaced, tested and the pilot re-lit.
  • Spark ignitor replacement: $450. For a weak spark or no spark at the pilot. The new ignitor is installed and tested.
  • Pilot assembly replacement: $450–$650 on a gas log set, $850–$1,200 on a direct-vent unit. On a sealed direct-vent fireplace the pilot and ignition are one assembly, and the sealed system is checked for integrity after the work.
  • Direct-vent control module replacement: $1,200. Your model is confirmed before the part is ordered.
  • Glass and gasket: $450 for the gasket, $900 for glass and gasket. A worn gasket or cracked glass on a sealed unit lets exhaust into the room.

These are alternative repairs selected after diagnosis, not charges added together. A gas valve is tested before anything is replaced and is quoted after diagnosis.

Remotes, blower kits and a damper clamp for vented gas logs are optional add-ons, priced in the calculator below.

If your fireplace lights but shuts off partway through a burn, our guide to why a gas fireplace keeps shutting off explains the usual causes.

What drives the price

What Changes the Cost of Gas Fireplace Repair?

Which Part Has Failed

Found by diagnosis, not guessed

A thermocouple, an ignitor and a gas valve can all cause the same symptom. Each part is tested in order, so you pay for the repair the fireplace needs, not for parts swapped on a hunch.

Gas Log Set or Direct-Vent Unit

Sealed systems cost more

An open gas log set has a simpler pilot. A sealed direct-vent fireplace or insert combines the pilot and ignition in one assembly and has to be checked for integrity afterward, which is why the same repair costs more.

Make, Model and Parts

Model confirmed before ordering

Control modules and replacement glass are ordered for your exact model, and the model is confirmed before ordering. When a part has to be ordered, the return visit to install it is billed as a new visit.

Safety Findings

Unit stays off until repaired

If the leak check fails or we find an unsafe condition, the fireplace is shut down until the repair is made. Gas line work is coordinated through our approved subcontractors and billed separately. For a full test with written findings, see our chimney and gas fireplace inspection costs.

What you get

What's Included in Your Gas Fireplace Repair?

Every repair starts with finding the failed part. Our gas fireplace repair service explains how the ignition sequence is tested, from the switch to the burner.

On a service and repair visit, the technician diagnoses the problem, makes the repair with labor and small common parts up to $50 included, and runs the unit before and after.

For a part replacement, the failed part is replaced with a manufacturer or approved-compatible part, tested, and the pilot re-lit. On a direct-vent unit the sealed system is checked for integrity after the work.

For glass and gasket work, the seal is checked once the new parts are in, and the unit is run before and after.

Our 1-Year Workmanship Warranty covers the labor on the repair, and parts carry the manufacturer's warranty. Anything found beyond the quoted problem is explained and approved before extra work starts.
