DRYER VENT CLEANING IN BURLINGTON, MA

Airflow is the whole measurement. We read it at the start of the visit, clear the duct, and read it again before leaving — so what you get is a pair of numbers rather than an assurance that things look better. A vent that has never been cleared will usually show the difference immediately.

A ground-floor wall exit is $249. Roof exits, ducts running past twenty-five feet, several changes of direction, or heavy accumulation take it to $449. The visit covers the entire path from the back of the machine to the exterior cap, an inspection of that cap, and reconnection of the appliance afterwards.

Lint behaves nothing like household dust. It is fine, dry, and combustible, gathering inside a duct that heats every time the machine runs. A restricted vent forces the dryer to run longer and hotter to finish the same load — which is the condition that makes the accumulation dangerous rather than merely inconvenient. The full method is on our dryer vent cleaning page.

The Work

Two readings, taken twenty minutes apart.

The number at the start is the honest part of this service. Anyone can clear a duct and say it went well. A flow reading taken before the brush goes in gives you a baseline that cannot be argued with, and the second reading is what the money bought.

The exterior cap gets the same treatment. A flap that has stopped lifting, a screen that should never have been fitted, or something that has taken up residence behind it will put the duct back where it started within a season — so it is checked, and if it needs replacing that is a separate quoted line rather than a surprise. Where the technician is already on the roof, the chimney cap gets a look as well.

This service runs from Wellesley as well and across the Massachusetts area. The full local list is on the Burlington page.

When to book

Signs a Burlington dryer vent needs clearing.

Every one of these shows up at the machine rather than at the duct, which is why the machine usually takes the blame and sometimes gets replaced for no reason at all.

01

Clothes take more than one cycle to dry

02

The dryer or the laundry room feels unusually hot during a cycle

03

A burning or scorched smell while the machine runs

04

Lint visible around the outside vent or the dryer door

05

The exterior vent flap does not open when the dryer is on

06

It has been more than 12 months since the last cleaning

Worth separating two of these. A scorched smell is a stop-now signal and should not wait for a scheduled visit. Everything above it is an appointment.

A chimney isn't clean because it looks clean. It's clean when the flue shows bare masonry — and we photograph it to prove it.

The Brown Chimney Standard · Burlington

Your Burlington crew, based on Burlington Woods.

Off Route 128, where the town starts
Our office is in Burlington Woods, minutes from the highway that built this town. Town Center, Mill Pond, and Fox Hill are all a short drive from the door — nobody is dispatching a truck from Boston to reach you.

Rated by the people who live here, from Beacon Village and Pine Glen across to Francis Wyman and the streets off Cambridge.
A town that arrived in one generation
Route 128 was finished in 1954. Burlington had 3,250 residents in 1950 and 19,473 by 1965. Most of the chimneys we work on went up inside that window, and they age as a group rather than one at a time.

Is your dryer vent a fire risk?

Dryer vents cause about 2,900 house fires a year in the US. Three questions and we'll tell you where you stand.

This is the fire-risk category

Long dry times, hot exteriors, or burning smells all mean lint is packed in the duct. Rotary brushing plus HEPA vacuum is the only method that clears the full run.

What to expect

What happens during a Burlington vent visit.

Under an hour for a straightforward run, longer where the duct is long or the exit is above the roofline. Both ends have to be reachable — the appliance and the outside cap — so tell us which floor the laundry sits on when you book. That determines what comes off the truck, and it is the difference between one visit and two.

01

Airflow test — before

The run is measured at the exterior cap before anything is touched. This number is your baseline — and your proof at the end.

02

Disconnect & access

The dryer is pulled, the transition hose disconnected, and both ends of the duct opened for full-run access.

03

Rotary brush cleaning

Brushes sized to the duct work the entire run from both directions, with vacuum extraction capturing lint as it breaks loose — including the bends where clogs hide.

04

Cap inspection & clearing

The exterior cap is cleared and checked — a crushed or screen-blocked cap chokes airflow as badly as lint does.

05

Reconnect & airflow test — after

The vent is properly reconnected and the airflow measured again. Before-and-after numbers go in your report: the restriction is gone, and you can see it.

For transparency

What this visit does not cover.

Anything inside the machine. We clear the duct, reconnect it, and measure the result. A dryer with a failing element, thermostat, or motor belongs to an appliance technician.

A new exterior cap. Where the existing one is cracked, screened, or no longer opening, it is priced on its own line once the technician has seen it.

Ductwork that is wrong rather than dirty. A run built too long, crushed behind an appliance, or made from flexible foil is a rebuild rather than a cleaning, and it gets quoted separately.

FAQs

Common questions about dryer vent cleaning in Burlington

1 icon

What does the airflow reading actually tell us?

How much of the duct is still working. A reading taken before and after gives you the improvement as a figure rather than a claim, and on a badly restricted run the difference is obvious enough that most people ask to see it twice.
Faq Number

Is once a year right, or is that just a standard answer?

It is a starting point rather than a rule. What actually sets the interval is how far the air has to travel and how hard the machine works — a household doing several loads a day through a long duct will need it sooner than one doing two loads a week through a short one.
3 icon

Our vent goes out through the roof. Why does that cost more?

Because reaching both ends of the duct becomes two jobs instead of one, and the run is almost always longer with more turns in it. That combination is what puts a job at $449 rather than $249, and it is decided by the house rather than by us.
4 icon

There is a screen over our outside vent. Is that a problem?

Usually yes. Mesh over a dryer exit catches lint on the way out and blocks the flap from opening properly, which is the opposite of what a vent needs to do. It is worth knowing that a chimney needs mesh and a dryer vent does not.
5 icon

Can this be done on the same visit as the chimney?

Usually, and it makes sense to ask. Both need someone inside the house and frequently on the roof, so booking them together costs one appointment rather than two.
