2026 PRICING · LICENSED & INSURED

HOW MUCH DOES A CHIMNEY CAP INSTALLATION COST?

A standard chimney cap installation runs $375 – $549 in 2026 for single-flue caps, and $1,500 – $2,500+ for custom multi-flue caps. The price depends on three things: how many flues your chimney has, how easy your roof is to access, and the cap material your chimney needs. An open chimney without a cap can lead to water damage, animal entry, and rusted-out internal parts within a few years — so this is one of the most cost-effective protective installs you can do. Here's what you'll actually pay

Chimney cap prices are usually written in a frustrating way: "anywhere from $200 to $2,500." That's technically true — but it's not helpful when you're trying to budget for your house. So here's the straight answer for a typical cap installation in 2026:

Standard single-flue cap (galvanized) — $375
Hard access single-flue cap — up to $549
Cap repair & re-seating (existing cap) — $195
Custom multi-flue cap (stainless steel) — $1,500 – $2,500+
Cap & pipe painting — $275 – $675

You'll land at the low end if you have a single-flue chimney with easy roof access. Multi-flue chimneys jump to a different pricing model entirely because each cap is custom-built, stainless steel, and priced by size (length × width plus a base fee). The calculator below asks you these exact questions and shows you where you fall.

What drives the price

WHAT MAKES ONE CHIMNEY CAP COST MORE THAN ANOTHER

UMBER OF FLUES

$375 – $2,500+

A single-flue chimney takes a stock galvanized cap that fits standard openings. Multi-flue chimneys (2 or more openings) need a custom-built stainless steel cap measured to your exact dimensions — that's the biggest jump in price.

CAP MATERIAL

Quality difference

Galvanized steel is acceptable for single-flue caps and keeps cost down. Multi-flue caps and chase covers are stainless steel only — no exceptions — because they're custom-built and need to last decades on a complex chimney top.

ROOF ACCESS

+$0 – $174

Single-story homes with easy ladder access take the standard $375. Steep roofs, tall chimneys, or limited access push the price toward $549 because the install takes longer and needs more safety setup.

REPAIR VS REPLACE

$195 vs $375+

If your existing cap is just loose or has minor surface rust, we can re-secure and re-seat it for $195. But honest answer: most damaged caps can't be repaired — once a cap is rusted through, bent, or missing parts, replacement is the only safe option. We'll tell you on-site which one yours needs.

FAQ

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT CHIMNEY CAP INSTALLATION COSTS

1 icon
How much does a chimney cap installation cost on average?
A standard single-flue chimney cap runs $375 in 2026, or up to $549 if your roof is hard to access. Custom multi-flue caps are priced by size and start around $1,500. The calculator above gives you a tighter range based on your specific chimney.
Faq Number
Why are multi-flue caps so much more expensive than single-flue caps?
Single-flue caps are stock parts — we keep them on the truck and they fit standard 13×13 or 13×9 openings. Multi-flue caps are custom-built stainless steel pieces measured and fabricated to your exact chimney dimensions, with a sealed cover plate over the entire crown. The material, fabrication, and install time are all bigger jobs.
3 icon
Do I really need a cap on my chimney?
es. An open chimney without a cap can lead to water damage, animal entry, and internal deterioration — often within a single season. A cap blocks three things from your flue: rain (which damages the smoke chamber and rusts metal parts), animals (squirrels, raccoons, and birds nest in open flues), and embers (which can land on your roof or your neighbors'). For under $400, it's the cheapest insurance you can buy for your chimney.
4 icon
What's the difference between galvanized and stainless steel caps?
Galvanized steel is acceptable for standard single-flue caps and is what we use for CAP-001 — it's coated to resist rust and is fine for most single-flue applications. Stainless steel is required for multi-flue caps and chase covers because they're larger, more exposed, and need to last on a complex chimney top. Stainless costs more but resists rust completely.
5 icon
Can you fix my existing cap instead of replacing it?
Yes — if it's just loose, missing screws, or has minor surface rust, we can re-secure, re-caulk, and re-seat it for $195. If your cap is rusted through or structurally damaged, repair is not a safe option — replacement is required. We'll tell you on-site which one your cap needs and why.
Do you offer a free estimate before the cap installation?
For single-flue caps, the price is set ($375 standard, up to $549 hard access) — no separate estimate visit needed. For multi-flue or chase cover work, we measure on-site to give you the exact custom quote in writing before any work begins.
